couple of tools for your pc.

Recommended Posts

hey everyone, i know that we all use computers to access ITD and i figured i would share a couple of tools i use everyday so as to make things easier for everyone.

Antivirus: If you dont have one on your pc its like going bear hunting with a stick. you just dont do it. I recommend a free (but very good) one called Avast. its light so its not a hog on your pc resources and comes in many languages etc etc.

Scan: if you suspect something is going on with your pc but your AV doesnt pick up anything, or just for the hell of it i recommend Panda Activescan & Prevx. panda is a free online scanner that will tell you if you are infected and with what, while prevx does the same however i recommend both as one will catch what the other one wont. NOTE: these will not remove any infections, merely will tell you.

Removal:2 great pieces of software are Malwarebytes Anti-malware and SuperAntiSpyware. both are free (but can buy the pro version for extra coverage, active scanning etc) and non crippled like others. i like to have both on the pc, again so one can pick up on what the other may miss.

Browsing: Finally, the contact point for the internet is the browser. I know that most windows users like to use Internet Exploder, but its not very secure, i recommend you check out Mozilla Firefox since its safer, much easier to use, gets updated much more frequently and has some nice touches IE misses. NOTE: its for Windows and mac so both parties can get it.

There it is, i hope this quick guide helps a few and even with current antivirus and such tools i recommend a quick scan of the computer, you never know whats hiding until a zero day exploit worm find your ss# and bank accounts (also please dont save that kind of data on .doc and name it credit cards, social numbers etc, its not safe!) and then proceeds to wire your money to offshore accounts. (true story, happened to a client).

i dont mean to scare but remember to watch out in the Wild Wild Web.:ok:

ALSO: beware of programs such as antivirus 2009/8, antivirus Xp, vista antivirus etc, those are fake and want you to buy them just to infect you with more crap. if you suspect a program do a quick google scan and see if they are fakes or not (or ask me, i dont mind helping you out a bit)

i used to use AVG up until the day that it caused about 50 percent of my customer's pc's to blue screen indefinetely.. needless to say i dont like it since that day, thats why its always safer to have a couple of scanners on the pc, so if 1 fails, the others can pick up the slack ;)
