2500 Rear Wheel Stud Issues

Recommended Posts

I have replaced several wheel studs through the years and always had problems gettin them from the aftermarket shops. The ones they always tried to sell me were to short and the knuckle wasnt big enough to hold tight in the hub so I ended up havin to put a few tack welds to hold em in place. Finally found the secret. You have to ask for the 1 ton studs and they are the right ones. The 3/4 ton studs they sell are for the gasser version of the truck that runs a Dana 70 rear end.

The D70 is the same between the diesel and gasser AFAIK. Now you have a D80 and where getting the D70 wheel studs is what your saying?

Yep. The ones listed in all the parts houses are for the gassers with a smaller axle under them. Been some discussion on wether or not that smaller axle is a 60 or 70 version though. But in any case they are wrong for our trucks.

The part numbers for the right studs is

Dorman Brand/Autozone 610-383.1 Under $2 each

OEM 4746915 $11 each

The gasser 2500s have a D70 in the rear same as the Cummins trucks. The only reason you have the D80 is because you have a manual trans.
