4wd no worky

Recommended Posts

So I had those crappy 4wd autohubs, last year I swapped em out for ford manual hubs from a wrecked 97 at the junkyard. Well when the hubs are locked and also when I actually engage 4wd there is a nasty grinding noise, but only on decel and around 30 mph, it never makes any noise during accel or steady speeds (unless around 30). I had a mechanic friend of mine check it out, he took the hubs apart and looked at em and he said everything looks fine, but he didnt have any time to take it for a road test. Any ideas?

Hubs. Freakin do it all the time. I would make sure the spring is actually tough enough to fully engage. I always had problems with warn hubs so now I run superwinch hubs

Wait. so is your 4wd functional just noisy? A little confused from your post and title.

I would look at the ujoints and carrier bearing on the rear shaft. I know it sounds weird, but in 4wd, driveshafts are stressed differently than in 2wd.
