Banks Sidewinder Type D sets new record

Recommended Posts

That's right. A Duramax powered drag truck is now the quickest and fastest in the 1/4 mile. Now someone needs to build a dragster and we'll have the drag racing all sewn up. Here are the details:

I have a few more details about the Sidewinder Type-D’s performance today. The truck has gotten faster and quicker with each successive run. On it’s 5th full throttle run ever, it clocked a ¼ mile E.T of 8.225 seconds at 164.67 MPH. Here are a few facts that are worth consideration:

At 8.225 seconds in the ¼ mile, the Type-D is now the Quickest Diesel Pickup on record, besting the 8.312 E.T. from the Dr. Performance Dodge Dakota.

At 164.67 MPH in the ¼ mile, it is also the Fastest Diesel Pickup on record, besting the 164.23 speed of the Dakota.

The Dr. Performance truck ran on the same track on the same day and was not able to beat the performance of the Type-D.

The Type-D was smoke free all day, while the Dakota smokes an incredible amount. Both trucks use nitrous. The Type-D has no form of exhaust treatment (such as a DPF).

The Type-D runs on ONE CP 3.3 fuel injection pump.

Preparation work on the Type-D began on October 8th. By October 20th, it was the quickest and fastest Duramax-powered pickup truck on its third pass down the track, and by October 25th it became the quickest and fastest diesel pickup truck on record, having official times at the NHRA AC-Delco Nationals in Las Vegas. There is still more left in the truck.

I like where it says prep started Oct. 8. What of 2004?

Still very cool. I do like the smoke free runs. Sorry Dodge guys but smoke free is the way into the general "green" additude now sweeping the nation.

Not bad for a million dollar truck. i wonder how long it will before they will makte it into the top ranks of Top Fuel type racing and if it will take another million to do it???

Still pretty cool to see a diesel go that fast. And anyone can be smoke free. just depends how much NO2 you wanna spray.

I think the started Oct. 8 thing was more along the lines of actually having the truck running and getting the suspension/trans/tuning dialed in for the track.

I would imagine they have a lot of time and money into the R&D work on this truck, but I bet the actual hard parts are much less than some might think. I bet they spend more money designing the thing than they spent building it.

Rob is smoke free and he uses ZERO No2, 700hp aswell.

When running the 11 sec. tune, I do blow some smoke on launch, but cleans right up. If I run the 12.1 sec. tune I'm pretty clean at launch.

They must be boosting with the N2O at the line to not have it smoke even then.

He's 647 on the Dyno that we have run at, but the Dyno can not get him up to full boost. So I'm pretty sure he's pretty dang close to 700

Cool. Rob, when did you hit 700hp?

I haven't. Like Tom said though, I only hit about 75% of boost on a dyno compared to the track. I've done every weight to MPH/ET comparison chart and they all put me over 700hp.

I don't worry about HP #'s, just track performance. So....I'm at 640+HP on paper. Besides, everyone says the dmax rods bend at 650hp:lol:

That's for sure, dyno's are paper braggin rights, but draggin or pullin is the fun. It's good to talk to you, I met you 2 springs ago at the dyno day in boise. My truck was the silver 24v that put down 611hp. I have to laugh thinking about it, I was concentrated on trying different setups, while the whole time Tom is talking to me about how I like my new tires through the passenger side window. Bad tom...bad.
