2012 Limping due to 'Low Quality DEF'....?

Recommended Posts

Asking for Grant,

He hauls with his 2012 Duramax and has 420,k miles on it. It has started going into limp mode because of low quality def.  He says he's always used AC Delco, so he's sure it is a false sensor.

Does anyone know what might cure this?  He is very hesitant to do a delete (doesn't want to get CA's $5,000 fine!).

I would vote for the false sensor. Have had several dmax owners mention issues where that gives warnings, then go into limp mode.

Grant puts in miles quickly and goes thru the def so unless he has an old stock pile and buys non fresh def fluid one wouldnt expect bad fluid. Those using old fluid or with condensation have issues but Grant doesnt let grass grow under his tires.

Hey guys,

DEF is known to go bad, more so if you see tiny colored balls of the ingredients at the bottom of the container.

I'd check the DEF before the sensor, but then check the sensor as well.
