Ford engineers aren't the brightest people around. One of the reasons I don't by their diesels is that very reason.

I like my Cummins,plenty of room to work on.

What I don't understand is the old 1970 Ford pickups were just plain old flat firewall cabs. You could reach right down and turn the bellhousing bolts no problem. Now Ford attempts to shorten the hood and tuck the engine back under the cowl and then wrap everything tightly around the engine. Even Dodge did the same thing but at least with the Cummins you can still change a head gasket without much fight. No two post lift required.
